Consumer Reports Ford Fusion

How does Motor Trend Magazine decide on which cars to pick for Motor Trends Car of the Year?

I did some research and the toyota camry in 6 months has had a 73 complaints according to http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/ The 2006 car of the year …Honda accord has had 38 complaints. The Ford Fusion has had the least and is on Consumer reports cover in December with only 11 complaints in the 18 months it has been out. Why did Motor Trend not pick the Fusion? Is it because Ford does not spend the millions of $s toyota spends in advertising?

I guarantee that Motor Trend Magazine has NEVER even looked at the NHTSA’s website when choosing their “winners”

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration / US Department of Transportation is a government agency that : documents & investigates, consumer compaints, safety issues & recalls, manufacturer defects, technical service bullitens, etc.

Motor Trend Magazine makes money by selling advertising space in an ‘Entertainment’ publication.

Consumer driven publications, such as Consumer Report, are less biased.

I also have visited http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/
I’m pretty astonished at all the Camry & Accord complaints & safety recalls & investigations etc.
& I’m pretty impressed with the Fusions “lack of same”

You are right about the customer complaints :
73 in 6 months for the ‘all new & improved’ Camry
11 in 18 months for the Fusion.

But did you read the actual complaints….one Fusion complaint was about how when parallel parking the rims scraped up against the curb, causing damage to the wheels & tires.
Does that sound like a safety defect ? or someone that can’t parallel park ? LOL

Ford Fusion (Europe)

Ford Fusion (Europe)

$114.71

The European Ford Fusion is a stretched version of the Ford Fiesta supermini produced by Ford of Europe since 2002 and sold in Europe and India. The design includes elements of both estates and multipurpose vehicles. Its extra height compared with the Fiesta is due to both roof racks, increased ground clearance and taller roof, which makes it roomier and more comfortable for taller drivers than regular superminis, drawing it closer to mini MPVs and mini SUVs. A nofrills XUV version of the Fusion called the Ford EcoSport is produced in Brazil and sold in many Latin American countries. It is similar to the Fusion, but as any XUV it features an increased ride height, offroad suspension, larger wheels and dark bumpers. 1.0 turbo, 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0litre Duratec petrol engines and 1.4litre TDCi diesel engines with frontwheel drive or fourwheel drive are available. Cold Fusion

Cold Fusion

$93.99

Cold fusion refers to a proposed nuclear fusion process of unknown mechanism offered to explain a group of disputed experimental results first reported by Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons. Cold fusion, under this definition, was first announced on March 23, 1989, when Fleischmann and Pons reported producing nuclear fusion in a tabletop experiment involving electrolysis of heavy water on a palladium (Pd) electrode. They reported anomalous heat production ( excess heat ) of a magnitude they asserted would defy explanation except in terms of nuclear processes. They further reported measuring small amounts of nuclear reaction byproducts, including neutrons and tritium. These reports raised hopes of a cheap and abundant source of energy. Enthusiasm turned to scepticism as replication failures were weighed in view of several reasons cold fusion should not be possible, the discovery of possible sources of experimental error, and finally the discovery that Fleischmann and Pons had not actually detected nuclear reaction byproducts. By late 1989, most scientists considered cold fusion claims dead, and cold fusion subsequently gained a reputation as pathological science.
