Should I buy a new car?

Im 18 have a used 03 sentra GXE. I want a 2012 Ford Fusion (s) and I’m looking up the prices using the build your own car on fords site. It would be about $281 a month for 72 months assuming a $2000 down payment.

Sounds like you know what your budget is and you already have the old car sold, however see how much the dealership would give you on trade for your old car as well, they might give you more than 2,000 bucks.

Look up your current car on KBB.com and see whats it trade in value is, and it will also let you see private party value is as well.

Also deal with the car dealer at the dealership say they want 24,000 for the car you want offer them 18,000 and work from there to agree on a price for the new car. Don’t just give them sticker price. If they won’t budge from the price walk away and go get the car elsewhere, there is more than one out there just like you want.

Don’t buy the first one you see go test drive a few of them and maybe other types of cars in the same price range as well, you may find a different car that you like much better!

But if you can afford a new car and can make the payments and it won’t hurt your bottom line or cause you to go broke then I say go for it. Remember this car will cost more than 281 bucks a month to drive, you have Gas, oil changes, upkeep and maintenance, and warranty will cover any faults with the car for a few years. Also you need to consider tags&taxes, and insurance as well. It all adds up.

The car you have right now may not be the best but there are no payments (maybe), insurance is less, it gets good mileage on gas, tags and taxes are cheaper, and all you have to do is keep it on the road. If it is an all around decent car for transportation I would keep it until I was out of college and save up while in college to get a nice brand new car when I got out of school.

The choice is yours, I have owned many new and used vehicles over the years and there is nothing wrong with owning either. Right now I have an 07, an 87 (restored), an 02, and a 2011 vehicle. But I have gathered them over the years, and have owned about 15 to 18 vehicles in total so far.
